Heifer International has signed on as a participating sponsor for the first time with The Global Poverty Project’s Live Below the Line campaign, which seeks to highlight current victories in poverty reduction and provide an experience akin to what life is like for the 1.2 billion people who live in extreme poverty.

Live Below the Line is an innovative awareness and fundraising campaign that asks participants to experience life below the international poverty line for five days. Between April 28 and May 2, thousands worldwide will try to eat and drink on only $1.50 a day. Register now to help Heifer International raise funds and awareness.

Heifer’s president and CEO, Pierre Ferrari, along with other staff at Heifer International, has signed on to participate and will be blogging and sharing video clips throughout his experience on Heifer’s blog.

"I’m proud that Heifer is partnering to help bring hands-on awareness and support to the issues of poverty and hunger that nearly one billion people around the world face. I will be taking the challenge in solidarity with the families we have not yet reached, who must still eke out an existence on so little every single day.”

He will be joining many celebrities who are participating, like Bridget Moynahan, Deborra-Lee Furness, Rachel Brosnahan, Jamie Geller, Bonnie Wright, Hunter Biden and Tamzin Merchant. Ryan Newman, star of the Nick at Nite series "See Dad Run," is participating on behalf of Heifer International as well.

Actress Bridget Moynahan, of CBS’ “Blue Bloods,” said, “I’m thrilled to join the Live Below the Line campaign this year in an effort to raise awareness for the 1.2 billion people around the world stuck in the cycle of extreme poverty.”

This year, The Global Poverty Project aims to motivate tens of thousands of people around the world to participate in the campaign. In 2013, with 21,000 participants, Live Below the Line raised more than $4.4 million globally and gained support from celebrities, influencers, students, mothers, communities of faith and world leaders. You can join Heifer International in this effort now. Are you up for the challenge?
