For many, the holiday season is a call for generosity. So often, the joy in giving is more for the giver than it is for the recipient: that’s the irony of it all.
At Heifer International, we witness giving all year long.
We see our supporters give generously in the hopes of making the world a better place.
We see our farmers give nearly half of what they own to their neighbors through Passing on the Gift.
And we see our farmers, in their success, give us back the gift of knowing that we have made a difference. That the seed of hope we planted with them is yielding fruit.
When I travel to Heifer communities, the value our farmers generate is so evident: the energy that is liberated by our small amount of help is a clear indication that the gifts we have passed on from you to them are multiplied enormously. I feel completely transformed by the fact that these folks, who were really in some of the deepest difficulties imaginable, are able to tap into energy and resources and hopefulness they didn't know they had.
It is your help that takes them all the way out, and the gift they give us is that humanity is strong, humanity is resilient, and it’s amazingly fulfilling.
