The Sweetest Way to End Poverty
Dylan’s Candy Bar has teamed up with Heifer International to make the world a better place for cocoa farmers. In May 2017, Dylan Lauren, founder and CEO of Dylan’s Candy Bar, took a trip to Calceta, Ecuador to see how cacao processing works, from beginning to end – in other words, how beans are transformed into the chocolate bars consumers know and love. As Dylan said “it was emotional, beautiful and inspiring all at the same time.”
Starting April 20, 2018, Dylan’s Candy Bar shoppers will have an opportunity to buy specially marked candy bars that will donate $1.00 to help local cocoa farmers in Ecuador improve their livelihoods. In Ecuador, this work will help empower women farmers by providing training in business and entrepreneurship, providing access to markets, and supporting women's self-help groups. Heifer will also help cocoa farmers create climate resilience on more than 1000 farms with an emphasis on soil conservation and water resources.
Additionally, Dylan’s Candy Bar will offer handmade bags and other accessories in their stores across the US.
Your purchase of these items will go towards furthering Heifer's mission to end hunger and poverty while caring for the earth, particularly in the communities in Ecuador. Globally, Heifer provides communities in developing nations with gifts of livestock/crops and training on how to turn those assets into a multiplying source of food and income.
Want to do more? Dylan said it best “Heifer makes it easy for people to be involved, and a gift to the organization is so meaningful! Through their website, you can make a donation of livestock, providing hungry families with nutrition and income. Whether it’s a flock of chicks, honeybees or goats, any amount helps!”
