Andrew Kang Bartlett Named to Heifer International Board of Directors

Andrew Kang Bartlett of Louisville, Ky. has been elected to the Board of Directors of Heifer International, an international development organization whose mission is to end hunger and poverty. Kang Bartlett will serve the volunteer board as a Covenant Agency Director representing the Presbyterian Hunger Program.

Bartlett is one of three covenant agency directors on Heifer’s board. The positions represent a variety of faiths, with the other two positions coming from the Episcopal Church and the Church of the Brethren.

As a National Associate for the Presbyterian Hunger Program, Kang Bartlett works with others to bring justice and sustainability to food and farming systems. That work goes hand in hand with the work of Heifer International. Kang Bartlett works with local food justice groups in Louisville and oversees eight Americorps *VISTAs in Louisville, Indianapolis and Cincinnati.  He also serves on the Coordinating Committee of the US Food Sovereignty Alliance, is a part of the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance's Food for Life Campaign Strategy Team, and sits on the board of Shalom Seed Sanctuary. Kang Bartlett brings many skills to the Heifer Board including community and rural development, advocacy, resource development and educational outreach.

Kang Bartlett earned a Master of Arts from San Francisco State University and studied progressive approaches to community-based rural development, largely based on work with small farmers and communities in Latin America. Beginning with three years of mission service with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Korean Christian Church of Japan, Andrew has dedicated himself to social justice and human rights. This calling has led him from community development and civil rights work with the Korean minority in Osaka to four years of solidarity with the people of El Salvador, to various efforts in support of small farmers, the poor, indigenous peoples and the environment.

Heifer International’s Board of Directors is comprised of 19 members of diverse backgrounds in the business, agriculture, academic, faith-based and private sectors.
