Fresh Produce, From Local Farmers to You

Weekly produce baskets at pickup locations around Central Ark. and Fort Smith

Buying local food is increasing in popularity across the state and Heifer International, in collaboration with Foodshed Farms, makes it easy to get connected. The Foodshed Farms CSA, which stands for community supported agriculture, brings together consumers and farmers enabling them to purchase a “share” of weekly produce delivered to several locations in Central Arkansas.

Starting in October, shareholders will receive six to 10 pounds of fresh produce per week, sized for a family of two to three people. The fall CSA will last six weeks and cost $150. Each week there will be a variety of in-season produce. For example, fall CSA shareholders can expect sustainably grown produced like apples, beets, broccoli, collards, kale, onions, potatoes, pumpkins and turnips.

Shareholders can also add a meat share option through Grass Roots® Farmers’ Cooperative.

The Foodshed Farms team is comprised of diverse, small-scale Arkansas farmers, working together with Heifer USA, to provide a CSA program in the Little Rock and Fort Smith areas. These Arkansas farmers are committed to growing practices that promote healthy food, respect for the land, and strong rural communities.

Heifer USA’s Multi-Farm CSA will reconnect communities by providing consumers with access to healthy, locally produced food and by creating or connecting stable markets to small-scale farmers while paying them a fair price for their goods, increasing their incomes and providing them with opportunities for sustainable living. The farmers are enabled by gaining access to markets, and consumers are empowered to support their community on a microeconomic level.

In keeping with Heifer’s cornerstone of Passing on the Gift®, if a member can't pick-up their share, it will be donated to a family in need through Arkansas Foodbank. Additional shares can also be purchased on behalf of a family in need for the entire season.
