LITTLE ROCK, AR — March 2, 2026 — “From Scratch,” a food and travel docuseries hosted by actor David Moscow, takes viewers of its sixth season to destinations around the world – including a Heifer International project in rural India.
In each episode, Moscow meets a chef, samples their signature dish, and then has roughly a week to hunt, gather, or grow the ingredients to recreate it – sourcing every ingredient from scratch. The goal? To better understand food systems worldwide and the labor behind food.
In his travels, Moscow meets with Heifer program staff and smallholder farmer partners in the Odisha region of India to learn about the ingredients in a signature dish crafted by Chef Shriya Shetty. He encounters women smallholder farmers who are transforming their futures with seeds, livestock, training and technology.

The episode is a powerful look at how smallholder farmers are strengthening communities and global food systems.
“Smallholder farmers are crucial to global food production, particularly in developing countries,” Moscow said. “Heifer recognizes that by equipping farmers with the right resources, they can significantly improve their livelihoods.”
“From Scratch” tells the story of ingredients and the people who make them. Urmila Kninbudi and farmers like her grow ginger, garlic, mint, coriander and other spices that make Moscow and Shetty’s dish come alive.
From seed to plate, this story celebrates the incredible women who keep food on our tables. It highlights local food systems, environmental issues, and the hard work of farmers and fishermen.
