NEW YORK – Heifer International and its work to empower families in need was introduced to more than 400 business and industry leaders at the 12th annual 25 Influential Black Women in Business luncheon in New York City.
The annual event is presented by The Network Journal, a monthly print and online business magazine for African-American professionals and business owners, which chooses 25 women each year to receive the award. Recipients of the award are women who exemplify black female leadership and a willingness to help the black community meet its social, economic and political needs.
This year’s 25 honorees included women executives from Cisco Systems, GE Global Research, Nordstrom, the National Bar Association and Moody’s Investors Service.
Guests at the luncheon also heard from Rosalind McLymont, host and executive editor of The Network Journal, as she shared the story of her visit in February 2010 to a Heifer project in Muisne, Ecuador.
The community she visited is primarily an Afro-Ecuadoran group whose shellfish-gathering livelihood has been threatened. Heifer is partnering with local community organizations to help residents diversify their income, replenish the damaged environment and establish small-scale agriculture areas.
McLymont urged attendees to learn more about Heifer and its work.
