Tis the Season to Give Heifer

It's November 1, which means we're inching closer and closer to the gift giving holidays. Did you know that as many as 79 percent of Americans have indicated that they would rather receive a gift given in their name than something they just don't need? That's right. We'll be talking more about that in the next couple of months, and we will also be highlighting the various gifts Heifer offers as an alternative to those that come from department stores, toy bins or electronics companies.

It's a marvelous thing to be able to give a gift that can literally change a life. The Heifer menagerie certainly has that capability. Goats, chicks, cows and pigs all provide nourishment in the form of milk, eggs and meat, and extra income from the sale of surplus byproducts or the sale of offspring. Plus, these gifts will keep on giving when our families pass on the gift. Plus, we have other gifts that empower women, improve health and educate the next generation.

So, this year, why not take a new route. Send a girl to school, provide a flock of chicks to a family half-way around the world, or help provide access to clean drinking water for an impoverished village.

You'll make your own holiday merry and bright, and do the same for the future of a struggling family.

Gift different. Gift Heifer.
