What do you get for the person who has everything? It’s the age-old question, and a critical one this time of year.
So its super nice that one of those impossible-to-buy-for people issued a call for something that’s easy to buy, easy to give and cheep, too. This Christmas, Bill Gates is asking for chicks to be given in his name to help a struggling family on their climb from poverty. A hive of honey-making, crop-pollinating bees would be great too.
An avid redditor, Gates threw his name in the hat for the redditgifts Secret Santa-style exchange. If you’re the one who drew the billionaire philanthropist’s name, don’t sweat it. A flock of chicks goes for only 20 bucks. That’s a good deal for something that will eventually generate a potentially endless supply of eggs and chicks to provide both nutrition and income.
“I think everyone has their own reason for giving,” Gates told redditors earlier this month. “For Melinda and me, it’s pretty simple. We know we were very lucky to grow up where we did and when we did, and we want other people to have the same chance to make their most of their talents.”
Pretty sure Gates is going to score some of those chicks he asked for. No doubt he made the nice list this year, as he and his family worked through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to tackle extreme poverty, poor health in developing countries and failures in America’s education system.
