YOUR CHICKS ARE MAKING a LASTING IMPACT in CAMBODIA!
When you gave a flock of chicks months ago, you may not have realized just how great an impact your gift would have. When you give through Heifer International, your gift of a flock is more than just chicks — it’s eggs, income, and the ability for a family to lift themselves out of poverty once and for all.
From the family whose lives you changed and from all of us at Heifer — THANK YOU.
For farmers like Set Hatch and Soam Kemsan, the chicks you gave allow them to look to the future. With Heifer, Set learned how to keep her chickens healthy and was able to expand her business.
While it may seem like the journey of your chicks is coming to an end, your impact will continue to unfold for generations to come. The family who received your chicks promised to pass on offspring and share their newfound knowledge with another family in the community — continuing the cycle of change you set in motion.
Years from now, you might not remember the gift you gave. But the family in Cambodia who received your gift will never forget the person who changed their lives.

Soam’s Story of Success, All Because Of You
Soam’s family is a part of the Poultry Project of National Pride where your chicks went!
- Growing up during the Khmer Rouge’s brutal regime in Cambodia, Soam was forced to work in a child labor camp for years. One day he was badly beaten.
- When he regained consciousness, he ran away to the woods, where he hid until the country was liberated. Most of his family did not survive. After the war, he joined the military, married Nget On, and had five children. But his salary wasn’t enough.
- The Poultry Project of National Pride was the turning point for Soam’s family. Heifer taught him how to care for and make money with chicks — just like the chicks YOU gave!
- Heifer gave him chicks and access to two loans totaling $1,400. With the chicks came the benefits — eggs, fertilizer and hope! Heifer trained him in vaccinations, coop construction and coop hygiene.
- The lessons Soam learned extend far beyond the coop. Now, he uses his knowledge to better his farm, increase his income, and give back to his community. And it’s all thanks to a gift like yours.
About the Poultry Project of National Pride
TIMELINE 2021–2026
WHERE Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Speu, Kampong Thom, Kampot, Prey Veng, Pursat, Siem Reap, Svay Rieng and Takeo, Cambodia
OUR GOAL In Cambodia, a family needs an annual income of about $5,250 USD for basic needs — but the average income is only about $4,500 USD. Our goal is to help families increase their incomes to $5,900 USD through poultry.
The Poultry Project of National Pride will transform Cambodia’s traditional poultry production system into inclusive small-scale farmer enterprises that generate sustainable income and help rural communities thrive.
The program will organize households into self-help groups and agricultural cooperatives. They will receive assets such as chickens, feed and building materials, as well as specialized training and assistance to improve poultry producers’ entrepreneurship skills and operational capacity.
