So we say, but do we act on it? As great as Black Friday weekend deals are, the rise of rabid consumerism this time of year caused some to think we might need a friendly reminder to refocus on the true spirit of the season. Thus Giving Tuesday was born, a day in which we as a global community celebrate generosity and give back.
Last year, Giving Tuesday donations across the board amounted to more than $19 million, which was almost double the first year of Giving Tuesday! This year we can do even more (after all, Americans alone spent over $57 billion during the 2013 Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend). There are only two steps, so join us and prove that it really is better to give than to receive!
Step 1: GIVE YOUR MONEY! Donate money to organizations that help your local or global community! Giving through Heifer can double as a donation and an especially meaningful gift to a loved one, so check out our gift guide and go for it!!!
Step 2: GIVE YOUR VOICE! This is important. Talk about it! Tweet it! Facebook everybody you know! Whisper in co-workers' ears! People can't participate in Giving Tuesday if they don't know about it, and leaving people out is the exact opposite of what we're going for here. The hashtag is #GivingTuesday, so get giving and share about it like crazy!
