UN General Assembly Meet to Discuss MDGs

The General Assembly of the United Nations has begun its 68th general debate. You can watch the speeches live or archived by presenter on the United Nations' website here.

Tomorrow the President of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly, Ambassador John W. Ashe, will host a special event focusing on achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The eight MDGs – the first of which is to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger – were established by the UN General Assembly in 2000 and expire in 2015. While progress has been made in many areas, there remains much work to be done, and you can read about the gaps here.

Over the past week, InterAction has hosted a blog series on Huffington Post Impact regarding the Millennium Development Goals. Heifer International President and CEO Pierre Ferrari participated in the series with a post titled "If We Fail Women Farmers, We Fail the World."
