Students from St. Stithians Boys Preparatory School in Johannesburg South Africa are making a difference in the world—and their only resources are books.

Heifer International's Read to Feed program helps children learn about poverty and food security and raise funds to help poor families.

During Read to Feed, St. Stithians' students read books and obtained sponsorships from parents, family or friends for each book completed. The children who read the most books and raised the most funds received a Read to Feed prize from Heifer South Africa.

The school's librarian rewarded students with a colorful sticker for each book returned. In addition, some of the library's books contained vouchers, which could be redeemed for a small prize like a bookmark or pencil.

Thanks to the students' enthusiasm and the generosity of sponsors, St. Stithians Boys Preparatory School supported Heifer's mission through their participation in the Read to Feed program. And their efforts directly contributed to improving the future of many impoverished South African families.

The students not only proved that reading can be exciting, but also showed that everyone, no matter how old or young, can make a difference.

Teach kids to be everyday heroes.
