“Teachers open the door, but you must enter it yourself.” – Chinese Proverb

Armenians celebrate Teachers’ Day the first week of October. Teachers, doctors and clergymen have always been some of the most respected people in Armenia. This attitude dates very far back into the county’s history and continues through today.

We’ve discussed Lukashin village frequently recently, and it’s because the village is very active in partnering with Heifer Armenia. With the help of the organization and the Lukashin Farmers' Association, 26 families received cows and 16 received sheep in 2009 through Heifer projects in the village. In March 2012, a new Heifer YES! youth club opened in the community with seven directions, or areas of study.

Students studying journalism had the idea to honor retired teachers. Alina Usyan, the club trainer, managed the process of organizing the day. Karen Mkrtchyan, the newly elected village mayor, also helped organize the event. He prepared small presents for the teachers – flowers for the women and souvenirs for the men.

The event took place on October 6. The kids set off to congratulate the retired teachers of the village. The people who came across  them on the street warmly greeted and praised them for the wonderful idea. The weather, the kids and the warm attitude of the villagers made everyone feel happy and nice.

All the people the children visited and congratulated were very happy and slightly surprised. For many years, they haven’t had such a large-scale appreciation event of their teaching careers. The schoolchildren visited the teachers, congratulated them, gave them presents and thanked them for their devotion.

We would like to congratulate all the teachers of Armenia and in the world for the job they are doing. Educational professions should be the most cherished and respected professions in any country, because teachers bring up a whole new generation, and the success of the new generation largely depends on them.

Thank you very much for everything, dear teachers!
