Turkeys and More Can End World Hunger With Heifer International

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Nov. 21, 2012) – Turkeys are delicious, but they aren’t the only animal that can bring joy this Thanksgiving. How about a llama, duck or water buffalo?

These animals won’t provide a Thanksgiving feast. They’ll be given by Heifer International to families in poverty around the world, making them self-sufficient by providing milk, eggs, meat, manure and other beneficial products.

This Thanksgiving, Heifer International gives thanks for the many donors who help it to end the condition of hunger and poverty for thousands of families each year. Their donations have made an enduring difference for these men, women and children.

Since 1944, Heifer International has worked to give families a hand up, not a handout, by providing life-changing gifts of livestock, seeds, trees and training. Heifer International shows families how to use their farm products to create small businesses. The most profound moment of transformation comes when families Pass on the Gift of their animal’s offspring to another family in need.

So this Thanksgiving, as you dig into your big meal and give thanks for your abundance, remember to extend a hand to families who don’t have a good meal to eat – on Thanksgiving or any day. The blessing of a Heifer International animal will outlast even the Thanksgiving leftovers!
