ATLANTA, Ga. (Oct 8, 2012) – Heifer International and Oglethorpe University are hosting the first ever Heifer Sustainability Summit on Oct 13, from 1-5 p.m in Lupton Hall Auditorium. The one-day summit will look at the issues surrounding hunger and poverty globally and discuss how Heifer works with smallholder farmers, teaching them agriculture and animal husbandry practices that lead to self-reliance.
Speaking at the event will be Pierre Ferrari, President and CEO of Heifer International, who will discuss how scaling up agricultural value chains can help satisfy the increasing demand for food. Doug Shipman, President and CEO of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, will join Ferrari on stage to discuss the approach and take questions from the audience.
Also speaking will be Heifer International’s Cambodia Country Director, Keo Keang, and Heifer’s Director of Social Enterprise Development, Jeffrey Scott, who will share insights from their work in the field about how empowering smallholder farmers can address food insecurity, gender issues and the global food chain.
