What’s Growing On: Global Harvest Festival

You’re invited! Join us at Heifer Farm on October 4th and 5th at 216 Wachusett St in Rutland, MA for our annual Global Harvest Festival.

For this special event the Global Village at Heifer Farm is dressed up and ready to party! The Global Village is a winding path through the woods with international homesteads to tour along the way. There are eight sites that each represent a different country where Heifer works, and is complete with a shelter, garden and animals.

There is fun for the whole family as you travel around the world in the Global Village.  Activities include: digging purple potatoes, taking a swing at the piñata, making Guatemalan worry dolls, roasting coffee, exploring a yak-hair yurt, listening to African drumming, feeding the goats, rolling bees wax candles, pressing apples for cider and so much more.

The rest of the farm is bursting with activities as well—local musicians will perform folk music throughout the weekend, and the Dale Perkins Horse Show will entertain us at 1PM each day. Take home some farm know-how with workshops on goat milking and growing garlic. New this year is our farm-themed Instagram scavenger hunt which compliments old favorites like hay rides to the PYO pumpkin patch, face-painting, potato sack races and plenty of games to win prizes.

The Global Café will serve farm-to-table international cuisine such as Polish pierogi and Kenyan goat stew and as well as festival favorites like pork tacos, pesto pizza and ice cream. You can also bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy on the scenic overlook.

The fair-trade company Equal Exchange will join us in the Take Action Café to sell coffee and chocolate. This area also features a heritage breed photo exhibit and resources for schools, faith communities and individuals to get involved with Heifer.

Best of all, this festival is only $10 per vehicle. All proceeds go to Heifer International’s work to end hunger and poverty, and what better way to support Heifer than through a celebration of agriculture, culture and community?

So save the date because October 4th and 5th is right around the corner and we hope to see you there!

Live too far to make it? Heifer Ranch (Perryville, AR) is hosting a Beyond Hunger Event on October 4th and you can always help us spread the word about both events by sharing information on your Facebook or Twitter account.
