With support from the Southern Extension Risk Management Center and Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) and Heifer USA are offering back-to-back workshops for vegetable producers. These workshops will help you hone your production and business management skills to improve your operation's efficiency and profitability.
Day 1: Small-Scale Equipment and Scaling-up Production
Workshop sessions will include discussions of financial management, marketing strategies, produce safety, and digital tools for the savvy grower. Participants will also tour the Heifer Ranch CSA to learn about organic production techniques and protected culture.
A second day of training on Thursday, May 11, will dive into scale-appropriate tools and equipment for vegetable production efficiency. Scholarships are available to cover lodging and meals for those wishing to stay the night on May 10 in order to attend both workshops.
Workshops will include sessions led by NCAT agriculture specialists and seasoned farmers. These are intermediate-level workshops geared towards vegetable growers with some experience, but all are welcome. Participants may attend either or both days, but must register for each day they wish to attend. The workshops are free and lunch will be provided, but space is limited, so register soon.
