General Federation of Women's Clubs
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) and Heifer International share a common purpose in creating sustainable solutions to hunger and poverty for women and families around the world. Together, we recognize the role women play in community improvement, and we’ve seen that when we invest in women, the returns are multiplied many times over.
For decades, GFWC has contributed to Heifer projects, which directly helps families to become self-sufficient through community building, education, training and gifts of livestock. We are deeply grateful to have a partner as dedicated to serving others as you.
Please take a moment to explore this page for exciting resources that can be used to engage GFWC clubs around the world with Heifer’s mission.
SPREAD THE WORD
Share Heifer's work with your clubs by ordering a GFWC Toolkit. With the toolkit, your club will be equipped with the resources to teach members about how Heifer works with families around the world to lift themselves out of poverty and strengthen their communities.
Get your community involved
Partner with local schools to implement Read to Feed. Read to Feed is a reading incentive service-learning program that offers global education resources and fosters in children a love for reading, a passion to help others and the motivation to help create a better world. Have club members speak to children about Heifer’s work, sponsor or match sponsorships for books read.
READ TO FEED
Host a Heifer Animal Auction! Livestock are the backbone of our work. They provide life-sustaining products such as milk, eggs, cheese, honey and wool. And for each animal received, families agree to pass on the offspring of that animal to another person in need. In that act, families become a part of the cycle of positive change. Auctioning of Heifer animals is an easy way to be able to focus on the purpose and details of the event, rather than on procuring items. See if you and your club can auction off enough to donate multiple animals to families around the world.
Organize a Living Gift Market and teach your community about giving to those in need. Participants are encouraged to buy animals as an alternative gift for loved ones. It makes a wonderful open house event to refocus on giving more meaningful gifts. From dressing up like animals to playing fun games, your club will really enjoy this lively event. Get started!
Create challenges for your club through the Fundraise for Heifer page. You can create a customizable fundraising web page to set a goal, receive donations and track progress; a personal web address to direct people to your page; and a Facebook badge that will allow your members ways to donate directly to your team.
Check out the Heifer Toolkit for ideas on how your club can fundraise for Heifer.
