"I Am in a Position to Help"
Like so many mothers around the world, Mrs. Moyo knows how painful it is to look into the eyes of her child and say, “there is nothing for us to eat today.”
"It was very hard,” Mrs. Moyo recalls. “It was very painful. I wanted my children to go to school and to be able to feed them.”
But there was often so little money that the Moyo children would go to neighboring houses begging for food. And school was out of the question. The kids were often turned away because the Moyos simply could not afford it.
Three-year-old Eugene now drinks all the milk he needs, thanks to the gift of sheep and cows from Heifer. His grandparents have grown their farm into a thriving business.
Imagine, then, how much it means for Mrs. Moyo to now be able to have milk for her children and grandchildren every single day! The family was given both heifers and sheep from Heifer International. The kids no longer have to beg their neighbors for food, thanks to the cabbage, onions and beets the Moyos grow in their garden. Their farm has grown to include chicken, cattle, goats, sheep and guinea fowl. And they’re now earning enough money to pay for food and school for 11 children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including one who is attending university.
This transformation was made possible because of a donation to Heifer from someone like you. But it also took a lot of hard work from Mrs. Moyo and the family to turn that gift into the hopeful future they now have ahead of them. Mr. Moyo has become a volunteer in his community, Passing on the Gift® of training and resources to others who need them. "It is wise to help others," he says. "I am in a position to help."
This is a clear example of the ripple effect that is initiated by your giving. Someone like you—who is in a position to help—reaches out to put someone else in a position to help others. That is a powerful illustration of how Heifer projects are able to change so many lives.
The impact of donors like you have affected the lives of nearly 3 million people in the last year alone. Our projects are ready
to scale up to bring in more families and communities, but we must have the additional funds to expand our reach. Please make your gift this new year the most generous you’ve ever made.
