Improved Animal and Resource Management
Livestock on small-scale farms fill many diverse roles for rural farmers worldwide. Our farmers learn how to keep their animals safe, healthy and productive.
Training and extension services are given to project families so they can provide their animals improved housing, management, breeding, nutrition and veterinary health. In most cases we train members of the communities as Community Animal Health Workers, who provide veterinary services to project groups.
Animals receive humane handling and protection while providing food and other by-products. Training in agroecology integrates livestock production into sustainable farming systems, which protect and enhance the local environment while providing families with food and income. Animals become a vital part of family activities without causing a burden on farm resources and are integrated into the community.
