Rochester United Methodist Church, Rochester, Illinois — Late in October 2013, the Sunday School decided to raise money to buy a water buffalo for Heifer as a Christmas present. Barb Oakes, a Heifer volunteer in the area, attended their services in December and offered a challenge: if they raised enough money for two water buffaloes, she would match them.
Before it was over, they raised enough for six buffaloes, Barb added two, and the money was submitted when there were matching funds available. Thanks to RUMC for your generous herd of water buffaloes!
Barb returned to RUMC and did a presentation using her study tour pictures from the 2004 trip to the Philippines. Barb’s picture story portrays a baby buffalo and her Heifer family, through a Passing on the Gift ceremony, to the new Heifer family that she will now be helping. Then RUMC members gathered to have their picture taken around Barb’s water buffalo Passing on the Gift ceremony picture from her Philippines trip.
The end of hunger isn’t a fairy tale
Welcome to the Heifer family. Donors, volunteers, recipients and our teams around the world share a common goal: To end hunger and poverty in a sustainable way. It’s a lofty goal, but we know it's achievable. Together we are the family that can create this change.
Together we can make cows fly

My name is Rebecca and I am from Lincoln Middle School in Meriden, CT. I am writing on behalf of my 7th grade team who worked at collecting money for your organization. My Social Studies teacher received your letter in the mail about donating to farms in East Africa and then gave us background on your organization because she uses your foundation herself. She then encouraged donations, even if it was just a penny. To read more, please click on the title of this story...
