A few months ago, Sara Rising of Kingwood First Presbyterian Church in Humble, TX had an idea to get the church members to work together in order to support Heifer International. When she had the thought, no one knew how big it would get!
From November to December of 2013, the church used a variety of methods to spread the word to the congregation about purchasing an animal from Heifer. Perhaps the best way was the corral that slowly grew in the front yard. Whenever an individual or a family purchased an animal, the high school youth of the church (pictured) would cut out and paint an image of the purchased animal. That image was placed in the front yard of the church so that the entire community could chart their progress.
Slowly but surely, the corral grew and, by the end, the church had given over 3 arks including 7 heifers, 18 goats and 20 water buffaloes! None of this could have happened without everyone's help.
The church is already planning for 2014 and will find a way to include the youngest to the oldest in a process of learning more about Heifer. We hope that next year's corral can not only be even bigger, but also not be the only one in the community!
