Agricultural Programs at Overlook Farm

Register for a Heifer International Agricultural Workshop held at Overlook Farm in Rutland, Massachusetts, to gain sustainable farming skills while learning more about Heifer's agricultural methods. These workshops are recommended for beginning to intermediate level farmers or hobbyists.

Harvest Time
Harvest Time teaches sustainable living techniques that you can incorporate into your life while also learning how Heifer International is working with communities all around the world. Activities include deepening your understanding of Heifer's work, livestock and garden activities, preservation techniques and cooking. Download the Harvest Time schedule of activities.

Livestock Health Care
Learn about the routine care of livestock, such as cattle, pigs, lambs, goats and chickens, while you help us complete our livestock health checks. Trim hooves, ear tag, vaccinate and evaluate body condition and general animal health. Perform daily livestock chores and other duties on our model farm. Levels of physical activity include moderate levels of heavy lifting and walking.

Vegetable Workshop
In this workshop you will learn how to start your own home or community garden. Course covers constructing raised beds, building healthy soil, starting and caring for young plants and harvesting spring vegetables. This program also includes livestock work with chickens and a beginning beekeeping session.  Levels of physical activity include low levels of lifting and moderate amounts of walking.

Tuition Fee: $475 per person

Lodging and Meals
Guests will stay at the Heifer Learning Center at Overlook Farm in a climate-controlled bunkroom. The bunkrooms, one for women and one for men, have four bunkbeds with a potential of eight men or women to a room. Each room includes a half-bath and a shower room with two shower stalls and a changing area. Guests are provided with one set of bed linens and towels. Meals are made from scratch using fresh farm products. Meals begin with dinner on day one and continue through breakfast on day four.

16 - those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
Per Person Tuition Fees: $325.00 to $475 per person
Tuition Fee Includes: Educational programming, work projects, lodging and meals
