Since 1974, Heifer Thailand has been working to end hunger and poverty through the gifts of livestock and training. To date, Heifer Thailand has assisted over 20,000 families in more than 1,600 villages in 3 countries - Thailand , Myanmar and Laos - to become self-reliant. Families have been "Passing on the Gift" through sharing their animal's offspring or repaying a loan, which is then given to other needy families. For over 20 years, Heifer China has been working to conserve the forests and farmland of rural China, while improving the income of rural families through partnerships with NGO's and governmental organizations. Heifer China began with only a few goat and rabbit projects in 1985, yet the program expanded rapidly and has now provided approximately 60,000 Chinese families with 4.5 million animals. Heifer China focuses on agroforestry, environmental conservation, HIV/AIDS training, grassland management, and integrated community development.
