Haitian Veterinarians Receive Community Animal Health Worker Training

Heifer Haiti staff hosted the Community Animal Health Worker (CAHW) Orientation Workshop in Les Cayes December 4-6, 2012. The goal of the workshop was to develop a community-based animal health care system in Haiti through a “training of trainers” methodology, where workshop participants learned basic health care applicable for all animal species so that they can use that knowledge to train animal health workers in the field.

Heifer Distributes Emergency Food Packages in Haiti

Heifer Haiti staff distributed more than 400 packages of food to families affected by Hurricane Sandy on Nov. 2-3. Each bag contained rice, corn, sugar, milk, beans, flour and cooking oil.

Kenflore's Goats Pay Her School Fees in Haiti

Kenflore enjoys helping care for her goats, leading them to pasture, making sure they have enough water and feeding them. The extra income the gift of a goat provides will pay the 5-year-old's school fees. As she cares for these goats, she directly improves her opportunities.

Cage Fishing Project Improves Output in Haiti

Jonas, a Haitian fisherman, makes his living on Lake Péligre. Due to runoff from deforestation, the lake has become shallower, making the fish less plentiful. With the training he received from Heifer, Jonas can make as much income in five months with the cage fishing program as he could in one year before. This extra income will help him buy more food and pay his children's school fees.

True Vision in Haiti

Anthonio organized a group of peers to improve the La Sucrerie community in southern Haiti. Today they're raising rabbits. Glaucoma claimed his eyesight at age 12, but his neighbors consider Anthonio a man with true vision.

Heifer Reaffirms Commitment to Haiti through REACH Project

Heifer International reaffirmed its commitment to Haiti at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting through the REACH project launched in July 2012. This $18 million commitment will improve the lives of 20,000 rural households through livestock microenterprise activities. We are looking to partner with investors and like-minded NGOs to strengthen social capital, build communities, and develop rural enterprises.
