Women Working in Solidarity: Field Visit to Villa Linda

Representatives of project partner Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (GMCR) and Heifer International made a field visit to the community of Villa Linda, Unión Cantinil, Guatemala. They visited a group of women involved in a Heifer project, and included a presentation some of the women followed by a series of questions and answers. Afterwards, the visitors went on a tour of five households that were putting their Heifer training into practice.

Heifer Guatemala Welcomes Visitors from U.S. Staff

Colleagues from Heifer’s U.S. staff visited Heifer Guatemala the week of September 24-28. The visit was an important one in terms of the new fundraisers achieving experiential understanding of Guatemala’s projects.

Peru Advances Through Technology Use

At Heifer Peru, we have strategically considered the inclusion of information and communication technologies, or ICTs, for the development of campesino communities. We believe that its use decreases the inequity gap in access to up-to-date information, which can generate the capacity that is needed to begin self-sustained social and economic development of people. Thus, we look to ICTs to help improve the quality of life of people in the most vulnerable sectors.

Heifer Distributes Emergency Food Packages in Haiti

Heifer Haiti staff distributed more than 400 packages of food to families affected by Hurricane Sandy on Nov. 2-3. Each bag contained rice, corn, sugar, milk, beans, flour and cooking oil.

Kenflore's Goats Pay Her School Fees in Haiti

Kenflore enjoys helping care for her goats, leading them to pasture, making sure they have enough water and feeding them. The extra income the gift of a goat provides will pay the 5-year-old's school fees. As she cares for these goats, she directly improves her opportunities.

Cage Fishing Project Improves Output in Haiti

Jonas, a Haitian fisherman, makes his living on Lake Péligre. Due to runoff from deforestation, the lake has become shallower, making the fish less plentiful. With the training he received from Heifer, Jonas can make as much income in five months with the cage fishing program as he could in one year before. This extra income will help him buy more food and pay his children's school fees.

Guatemalan Cultural Rescue: Opening of New Candelaria Institute

A celebration was held for the opening of Agricultural Institute as part of the Economic Development, Education, Food and Nutrition Security project, in partnership with the Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung Foundation and the municipality of Costa Senahú, on September 6, 2012.

PRONATURA Project Begins in Guatemala with Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony for the Productivity and Nature – PRONATURA – project was held on September 26, 2012, at the Health Center in San Miguel Tucurú in Guatemala.
