Heifer International Biogas Project Wins InterAction Award

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 28, 2012) – Heifer International’s biogas project in Uganda has received a Best Practice Award from InterAction, a coalition of nonprofit organizations focusing on disaster relief and sustainable development. The biogas program eases the workload of rural women and improves their health by providing a safe, renewable and cheap source of cleaner-burning fuel.

Heifer staff safe after Uganda mudslides; impact on families not yet known

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 25, 2012) – Heifer International Uganda country staff are reported safe after heavy rains triggered several mudslides in the Bugisu sub-region of eastern Uganda. Work to determine impact on communities Heifer serves in these regions is under way and will be reported as soon as details are known.

Philip West, son of Heifer International founder Dan West, passes away

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 21, 2012) – Heifer International is saddened to learn of the passing of Philip West, a son of our founder, Dan West. Philip West died Thursday in Missoula, Mont., surrounded by family. He is the brother of longtime Heifer staff member, author and supporter Jan West Shrock. Our sympathies and condolences go out to family and friends.

Cameroon: Heifer Steps Up Dairy Cattle Farming Support

One of the farmers in Noun Division, Njutamvoui Nourdine, happily recounted how her family's dairy farm now produces 35 litres of milk a day.

Dairy cattle farming or the raising of milk-producing cows has been gradually gaining in popularity in North West and West Regions over the years with a growing number of farmers - including those not supported by Heifer Project International, Cameroon. Smallholder dairy cattle development was introduced about 20 years ago by HPI Cameroon, an international integrated livestock development organisation.
