Earth Day Comes To Heifer International Campus

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 9, 2012) – Our natural landscape in Arkansas does a lot for us; on one day in April, it’s time to return the favor. The Arkansas Earth Day Foundation will host the 2012 Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 21, on the campus of Heifer International headquarters in downtown Little Rock from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fire Destroys Heifer Uganda Country Office

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 6, 2012) On Sunday, March 4, 2012, a fire destroyed Heifer International's Uganda country office in Kampala. Staff members are safe, but damage was severe and country program assets and materials were lost in the blaze. An evaluation is under way to determine which records can be salvaged via backups and copies. Teams from Heifer Uganda, the Italian Embassy security staff, the District Police Commander Wandegeya police station, the Fire Brigade and other security offices responded to the fire, which broke out about 5 a.m.

Heifer Village Hosts Design for a Cause Exhibit

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 1, 2012) – Heifer International's Murphy Keller Education Center (Heifer Village) in downtown Little Rock is pleased to display graphic design materials of four different Arkansas-based nonprofits in a new exhibit from March 21–April 9, 2012. Design for a Cause will feature design work from Heifer International, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Arkansas Children's Hospital and the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. Visitors can see how illustration, photography and writing are brought together by professionals in the service of various causes that improve our community and the world.

(Feb. 15, 2012) –A historic, months-long distribution of farm animals is now under way in Senegal, as Heifer International begins work on part of a new USAID Feed the Future project. Heifer estimates this handoff to 5,500 families to be the largest in its 68-year history. Heifer CEO Joins Harvard Conference

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Feb. 17, 2012) – Heifer International President and CEO Pierre Ferrari has been invited to participate in this year's Social Enterprise Conference at Harvard Business School. Ferrari will participate in a panel discussion Sunday, Feb. 26, on Business Models for Food Security and Agricultural Development. The conference, which in 2009 was named by Forbes.com as one of the "Top 12 most influential and exclusive executive gatherings," along with the World Economic Forum at Davos, TED and the Clinton Global Initiative, is co-hosted by students at the Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School.

Heifer International Leader To Visit Haiti

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Feb. 13, 2012) – Heifer International is deepening its work in Haiti this month, with a visit by its President and CEO, Pierre Ferrari, and the opening of a new goat-breeding center. The $30,000 breeding center will house about 100 animals, which will be used to fortify local goat stock. Ferrari will be in Haiti from Feb. 15-22, to preview Heifer Haiti's new REACH project, or Rural Entrepreneurs for Agricultural Cooperation in Haiti. The $18.7 million project will target more than 20,000 families in Haiti, working with goats, cattle, poultry, pigs and other agricultural inputs. The project will focus on moving families from hunger to self-sufficiency and further into small business development.
