Become a Heifer Ranch Volunteer

At Heifer Ranch, located in Perryville, AR, volunteers are some of our most valuable assests. Ranch volunteers help carry out Heifer's mission by facilitating educational programs, assisting with farm operations, hosting drop-in guests and filling vital administrative roles. 

Volunteering at Heifer Ranch is a mutually beneficial experience. It offers a hands-on opportunity to see theory put into practice and connects people with a community that is actively working to end hunger and poverty while caring for the earth. Volunteers are forever changed by learning, sharing and growing through their experiences at the Ranch.

Ranch volunteers come from across the United States and some are from other countries. They range from high school and college graduates to retirees. Skill levels vary for all positions and preference is given to those that already possess the skills we are seeking. All volunteer positions are similiar to full-time jobs with high levels of responsibility and set work schedules.

Volunteer Requirements
All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Each volunteer position on the Ranch has a minimum commitment of service that varies position to position and on the season of your stay. To be a residential volunteer you must serve a minimum of one month and work a minimum of 40 hours a week. Local day volunteers can serve full or part-time in many roles. To become a volunteer you must complete an application and pass a background check.

Residential Volunteering Benefits
Residential volunteers benefit from communal on-site housing, noon meal, stipends and a strong community connection with other staff. All Ranch housing includes bedding, cooking equipment, and televisions with DVD/VCR players. The Ranch provides a bicycle (bicycles are limited and are assigned on a first come first serve basis) for use on the Ranch to get you to your job site though you can easily walk as the Ranch sits on a 300 acre campus. During your time off, you can relax in the community building that includes a ping pong table, pool table, large television and computers.
