Heifer and Green Mountain Coffee

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters of Waterbury, Vt., a leader in the specialty coffee industry, has made a commitment to social responsibility and the environment by annually setting aside five percent of its pre-tax profits to support charitable causes.

Even better, Green Mountain only purchases high-quality certified-organic arabica beans for its specialty coffees, and pays the Fair Trade price to its suppliers for many of its coffees.

Now, Green Mountain and Heifer are joining forces to help coffee-growing communities – beginning with a project in Guatemala. While Heifer trains Guatemalan families in sustainable farming practices, Green Mountain provides a market for their products, ensuring that they have an income to supplement what they earn from the goat or cow (and corresponding training) they’ve received from Heifer.

The result: the communities that grow many of Green Mountain’s high-quality coffees will be even economically stronger, and the coffee they grow will be environmentally sustainable.

How can you help support the partnership between Green Mountain and Heifer?

1. Serve Green Mountain Coffee  at your place of business.
   
   
2. Purchase Heifer Hope Blend, a Fair Trade, organic coffee grown by farmers in  the “La Voz” cooperative in San Juan la Laguna. For every package of Heifer Hope Blend you buy, Green Mountain will donate 40 cents to Heifer.
