Heifer Village School and Educator Programs

Heifer International’s unique educational opportunities are reliably crafted around National and Arkansas state academic standards. Programs will provoke critical thinking and cooperative learning skills through engaging, interactive and inquiry-based topics.

School Field Trips

All activities are offered Tuesday through Friday at 9:00-11:00 or 11:00-1:00. Choose your program from the list below.

GRADES 3 & 4
Nutrition at Home and Around the World
Everyone eats! Can you name some nutrients that are important for your body? This program takes students to Mali, Bhutan and Ecuador to explore the typical meals from these countries.

GRADES 5 & 6
We Are Connected! Exploring Food Systems
You will be amazed what your favorite chocolate bar can teach you! Trace the steps involved in bringing foods to our table, and learn how we are connected to our food source.

GRADES 7 & 8
Be an Entrepreneur
Want to start a business but don’t really know what you want to do? Discover your talents and interests through this interactive program. Students will meet amazing individuals from different countries through reading about their experience of starting a business and how these businesses have transformed the communities.

GRADES 8 and Up
Environmental Innovations
Your students will get “up-close” to the Tupelo and Cypress wetlands around Heifer Village and Heifer’s green building.  By seeing the actual habitat, students can explore the connection between our environment and sustainable livelihoods. This generates discussion about what we can do to protect our environment.

Add-on Programs

Extend your Heifer Village visit by adding one of the following to your program.

GRADES 3-6

Using sidewalk chalk, students express their knowledge about Heifer animals and the benefits these animals provide to farmers.

GRADES 3-8
Where Heifer Works – World Map Card Game
Students learn about Heifer animals using fact cards and complete a world map puzzle to locate the countries where Heifer works.

GRADES 3-8
Wetland Scavenger Hunt
For students in grades 3-6, this program highlights the food web for the ecosystem of a marsh. For grades 6-8, the program will focus on the factors that influence three different ecosystems, and engage students to think critically about how the factors affect the species that live in those ecosystems.

GRADES 5-8
Garden Memory Game
Students play a memory game to explore steps involved in gardening.

GRADES 7& UP
Shine a Light on Hunger
This art program allows students to express their feelings about hunger and poverty through the use of images and words.

GRADES 7& UP
Who Gets What: Story – Card Game
Students read a brief story of an individual and analyze the status of food security in the community where that individual lives.
