India is the seventh largest and second most populous country in the world with over one billion people. This huge and growing population is the fundamental social, economic and environmental problem facing the country. Heifer India works to empower organized women's groups and assist small-scale farmers by providing animals, funds and training in management and marketing. Working with local organizations, including self-help co-ops, local government development agencies, and various grassroots societies ensures that the Heifer India programs are sustainable and encourage self-reliance. Heifer Viet Nam works in 27 provinces within the Red River Delta, the Central Regions, the Southeast and the Mekong Delta. Heifer Viet Nam works closely with local governments throughout the country and has been recognized by the Vietnamese government as a model for livestock devlopment. Heifer Viet Nam focuses on building project partner capacity by providing training on the values-based holistic community development approach, the 12 Cornerstones and project managment. Heifer Cambodia focuses on poor rural communities, and works through partners to establish self-help groups of neighboring families.
