Honduras: Study Tour For Educators
Group One: June 15-23, 2010
Group Two: June 23-July 1, 2010

Begins in Tegucigalpa and ends in San Pedro Sula
Heifer International is excited to offer a special Study Tour created specifically for educators. The experience trains participants to develop leadership roles in their local Heifer International school programs. By visiting Heifer project communities, participants get to see firsthand how Heifer's approach to development really works. Throughout the tour, participants learn more about Heifer and the issues associated with hunger, poverty and environmental degradation. Ultimately, they learn how their actions as educators can help motivate their students to help build a better world. Grants are available for selected participants. Heifer International continues to partner with self-reliant organizations in Honduras to help thousands of rural families and communities. The main objectives Heifer Honduras is working on currently are new umnrella projects in the western region, setting up rural schools for ecological livestock training and promoting technology to reduce firewood consumption, while continuing to incorporate the food sovereignty approach to social, economic and political transformation. Ecuador: North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
Trip Dates: June 23 - July 2, 2010
Tour Size: 16 participants
Begins and ends in Raleigh, North Carolina
IMPORTANT: This trip is only for educators in North Carolina and is run through the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

Explore the connections between environmental sustainability and poverty during the seventh year of this special collaboration between the North Carolina Musuem of Natural Sciences and Heifer International. Experience and learn about Ecuadorian ecosystems and the people who live and work in them. Participants will have an opportunity to work with Ecuadorian students and teachers, and to visit several Heifer Ecuador projects which focus on helping impoverished families move from poverty toward self-reliance. Peru

Heifer Peru works to improve the quality of life of rural families and to restore and protect Peru's natural resources, primarily by supporting livestock projects with an agroecological focus. It also works to recuperate traditional indigenous knowledge and strengthen the capacity of community-based groups in the areas of self-management, leadership and geneder equity. Heifer has worked in Bolivia since 1957. Since then, Heifer Bolivia has established strategic alliances with organizations of indigenous movements, small farmers, the urban poor and other local NGOs to implement sustainable development projects. The goal is to achieve food sovereignty for the most vulnerable families in the country. Bolivia's projects are centered on people's right to a healthy food supply and the value of local food production systems. Study Tours to North America range from 5 to 10 days and fees range from $1,000 to $1,500 per person (plus travel fees to and from the destination). Study Tours to Latin or South America range from 10 to 14 days and fees range from $2,000 to $3,000 per person (plus travel fees to and from the country destination).
