Peru - Biodiversity and Agroecology for Food Security
For this project, Heifer will work with families in 14 communities in the Puno area to improve their nutrition and income. These small farmers will learn proper agroecology techniques to improve the genetic conditions of their alpaca herds, increasing income from local markets. They will grow traditional crops to increase food security while preserving the environment. With Heifer’s participatory training, small farmer organizations will be empowered to create better living conditions for generations to come. Through Heifer’s assistance, the families will receive alpacas, llamas and sheep, as well as improved stoves, seeds, spinning equipment and leadership training. An additional 320 families will benefit through Heifer’s Passing on the Gift. |
