As of December 31, 2007, Ceres Center has become a full-time field office and no longer offers educational programming to the public. Ceres Center has completed the transition from an educational campus that teaches the public about world hunger and poverty into a field office where Heifer staff will work with communities to improve sources of nutrition and income through the gift of livestock and training. A new opportunity to experience Heifer education programs in California will soon be available. Heifer International has leased 10 acres of land at Hidden Villa, an environmental education center in Los Altos Hills, California. Over the next year, Heifer will construct Heifer International Learning Center at Hidden Villa which will replace Ceres Center.
The new center will be operated by Heifer staff and will feature the Heifer Global Village, a unique educational tool used by Heifer International that allows participants to live the lessons and cultures of Heifer’s project partners by replicating living conditions in their countries. By early 2009, groups will be able to participate in the Cultural Connections and Global Gateway programs that are offered through the Heifer Global Village.
