Romania
Mr. Pawel Ogozaly, from the Mochnaczka community, works with his wife on their farm of 10 hectares(25 acres), which Pawel inherited from his parents. Their farm is not very small, but the quality of soil is extremely poor which limited their farm’s production. Pawel and Anna are young and energetic and always dreamt of developing their farm further. Three fourths of their total farm is grasslands. Unfortunately, they did not have money to invest in their farm.
When they took an opportunity through Heifer Romania, they received two Polish Red heifers to add to the herd of three cows already in their barn. Having five animals in their barn made them eligible for a special governmental program for young farmers. They were accepted for that program and received support that allowed them to modernize the farm buildings and meet the EU standards for milk producers. Moreover, a hay trailer was purchased as well as a device for removing manure with a conveyor belt.
Currently, Anna and Pawel have nine cows in their barn and are planning to enlarge their herd. The two HPI heifers provided to the Ogorzaly’s became a magic seed for making improvements on the farm and for thinking about having a pure breed herd of Polish Red cows in the future.
