Nepal - Building Communities for Holistic Development in the Eastern Region -- New
Working predominately with women's groups, the primary focus of this project is improved nutrition and community development. Project participants will receive training on Heifer Cornerstones, gender equity, values based literacy, vegetable gardening, health and sanitation among other vital skills.

Laos - Promoting Women's Education and Self-Esteem -- New
In the mountainous area of Vientiane province, an area with high rates of landmine accidents, Heifer will be partnering with local non-profits to promote sustainable community development. This project will build the capacity of poor women to participate and lead in their communities.

Cambodia - Women's Empowerment and Holistic Community Development  -- New 
A total of 32 self-help groups, made up entirely of women, will be trained in a variety of skills to create sustainable livelihoods. Pigs, poultry and fish and animal health workers to ensure the health of the animals will ensure a brighter future for recipients.

Thailand - Empowering Marginalized Communities -- New
This project will assist 1,170 minority families in nine poor communities in Northern Thailand. Participants will form 55 communities, 20 percent of which will be women-only groups. In addition to animals and resources, this project will create and manage a mill for production of swine feed.

Sierra Leone - Integrated Livestock Development -- New 
This area of Sierra Leone is characterized by rapid population growth, a high incidence of communicable diseases, and increased pressure on natural resources and physical infrastructure. This project seeks to increase food production, improve nutrition, generate income and increase skill among project participants.

Rwanda - Sustainable Dairy Enterprise Development -- New
Over 90% of this area of Rwanda engages in subsistence agriculture due to the use of rudimentary agriculture tools. This is one of many problems families face in this region. This project's goal is to ensure food and income security at the household level for 1,200 farm families.

Slovakia - Chance for a New Beginning -- New
This project will directly work with the homeless, disabled and abused women and children to help them achieve self-reliance and a reliable source of food and income. Residents will also learn to produce wood chips for heating systems.

Honduras - Promotion of Food Sovereignty
Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America with more than half of the population living in poverty. This project takes place in the southern areas where communities suffer from limited food and income sources caused by extended drought and lack of access to productive resources.

China - Sichuan Earthquake Rebuilding -- Match
On May 12, 2008, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck China’s Sichuan province. Thousands were killed, and millions were left homeless. Heifer has a long history in this region of China and through this project will help many affected families rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

Tanzania - Natural Resources Management 
In northeast Tanzania, families are facing extreme hardships due to low incomes and lack of proper care for existing resources. This project will supply honeybees and fish fingerlings, plus specialized training in resource management,  beekeeping and agroforestry.

Zambia - Rural Community Development 
This five-year effort will improve the lives of many families living in poverty in Zambia. Providing livestock. agroecology training and marketing support will enable these families to achieve sustainable food and income supplies.

Uganda - Eastern Uganda Umbrella Project 
Eastern Uganda is a region that has known much conflict and poverty. Most families there live on less than $1 per day, barely enough to provide one inadequate meal for an entire family. This three-year umbrella project will help to life these farming families out of poverty.

Romania - Carpathian Project
In the heart of the Romanian Carpathian Mountains, farmer communities are facing many challenges. This project will create jobs and provide income while fostering traditional activities such as local Turcana sheep breeding, trout fish production and lamb fattening.

Poland - Agriculture and Tourism Development
Located in the Carpathian Mountain region of Southeastern Poland, this project will promote sustainable beekeeping, cattle breeding and educational tourism in the neighboring villages of Rymanów Spa, Dylagowa, and Pobiedno.

Ukraine - Helping Rural Families in Turka Region
Through this project, Heifer International will help 110 rural families in the villages of Borynia and Komarnyky improve their knowledge of agricultural production and processing, and green tourism.

Peru - Biodiversity and Agroecology for Food Security

The Puno region of southern Peru has the highest poverty rates in the country, as well as high rates of child malnutrition. Given the area’s harsh climate, farming is difficult and characterized by low yields. This project seeks to help families use agroecology to strengthen food security while preserving the environment.

The Tibetan Plateau is one of the most fragile and inhospitable places on the planet. That is why this Heifer project will help impoverished Tibetan households improve economic self-sufficiency while protecting their environment and preserving their culture through Heifer’s values-based community development activities.

Nepal - Sustainable Community Development

This project will assist a total of 1385 families in the Chitwan, Nawalparasi and Palpa Districts of Nepal, which are characterized by widespread poverty, caste discrimination, and illiteracy, among other problems.

Kosovo - Beekeeping to Stop Poverty and Illiteracy

In the mountainous regions of Kosovo, poverty and illiteracy rates are very high, especially among women. This project is designed to give unemployed women and their families a source of income while providing them reading education.

This dairy project is owned by the Women’s Group, which is comprised of 36 women, of whom 16 are widows or single mothers.

A Participatory Rural Appraisal exercise was conducted in these 10 villages to identify priority community needs and areas for assistance. This project will improve nutrition levels, increase income and protect the environment by practicing zero-grazing.
