Miller is a Heifer International Foundation representative to the Heifer International Board.
He grew up in Rockingham County in Virginia, near Harrisonburg, on a small farm where he worked with family members for a number of years. He was raised in the Church of the Brethren and first heard Heifer stories as a child in Sunday school. Dan West was a member of his church and Miller had the opportunity to work with him while serving in the Brethren Volunteer Service from 1965-1967. He also had the privilege of knowing the West family. His love for raising animals has continued since childhood.
Miller graduated in 1965 from Bridgewater College in Virginia. After Brethren Volunteer Service he worked for a construction company for four years before becoming an employee of the Church of the Brethren General Board. He retired in 1998 as Manager of the Emergency Response/Service Ministers Unit of the COB, which combines Disaster Response, Refugee Resettlement and the Material Resource Programs into one unit. Miller now enjoys completing projects around the home and is active in his local church.
He represented the Church of the Brethren on the HPI Board of Directors from 1988 to 2001. He served as the chair of the Heifer Project International board for two years, one of which was during the 50th anniversary.
Miller and his wife Connie, an attorney, have four children.
