Harvest Time at Overlook Farm
Register for Harvest Time to immerse yourself in a three-night course on food systems, sustainable agriculture and self-reliance techniques.
Experiential, hands-on and fun, you will learn sustainable living techniques that you can incorporate into your own life while also learning how Heifer International is working with communities all around the world to help families lift themselves out of poverty to become self-reliant.
After this course, you will be equipped with the knowledge to apply the techniques that you have learned to your home-life and we challenge you to further your impact by spreading that knowledge to your community.
Harvest Time activities include:
- Deepening your knowledge of Heifer’s work.
- Understanding the gap between the distribution of population and the distribution and consumption of resources.
- Experiencing the life of a family living in poverty through a meal in the Global Village.
- Livestock Activities – Learn how you can raise chickens in your backyard and help us care for our livestock.
- Gardening Activities – Gain gardening techniques by helping us build compost beds, harvest our fall crops and winterize the gardens.
- Preservation Techniques – Discover how to transform a simple product like milk into a higher profit item such as cheese or yogurt. Learn how to extend the life of your produce through canning, drying, freezing and lacto-fermentation.
- Enjoying a unique experience with others, including the dedicated Overlook staff and volunteers, that share your interests and passions.
