Service-Learning at Heifer Ranch
Five-Nights; 6th Grade–College Age
Check Availability.  Request a reservation.

Service-Learning programs at Heifer Ranch combine interactive learning programs, which bring awareness of the great need in the world, with opportunities to give the gift of your time and hard work. The service activities not only allow participants to give back but also serve as great educational tools - both about the value of giving your service to others and experiencing something for the first time – such as milking a goat or harvesting vegetables.

Service-learning programs have a primary emphasis on education programs, such as Global Gateway and team-building exercises that explore the issues surrounding hunger and poverty and sustainable solutions. These are not mere lectures. They are experiences that challenge participants to examine their habits and consumption – in fact, their core beliefs – on the path to becoming more responsible global citizens.

The amount and length of service activities vary by program and primarily focus on assisting with daily chores on the ranch. Service activities may include gardening, composting, working with livestock and helping with general farm chores such as barn and fence maintenance. The service that groups provide help maintain the ranch so that it remains an active Heifer International community where visitors can learn more about working to end world hunger and poverty while caring for the earth.

During their time on the Ranch, participants should be prepared for up to two miles of walking on a full day’s program.
