What Resourceful Looks Like in Vietnam
When Heifer writer Annie Bergman traveled to Vietnam, she thought that she had seen resourcefulness. But meeting Heifer project participants she gained a new appreciation of the word. One woman, Ma Xuan, was able to go from earning $20 a month to more than $260 a month with the resources Heifer provided her. Another person, Hoan Anh Tuan, was able to turn a $100 microcredit loan into $950 by growing beans. Annie’s encounters prove what Heifer has long believed—that if you give people the right resources they will pull themselves out of poverty.

VIDEO: Water Buffalo Offer Helping Hooves
Water buffalo are gentle giants. Native to Asia, these traditional animals offer families powerful assistance in their fight against poverty. These animals provide nutritious milk that give families both a source of income and protein. Water buffalo are also helpful in planting rice fields, providing manure for fertilizer and power for plowing. They can also haul carts of produce over rough jungle roads, allowing families access to markets that wouldn’t be otherwise available.
