Heifer Ranch's Summer Action

Summer Action participants engage in a journey of personal growth.  They commit to the value of serving others through interactive learning, community building and work projects.  Participants connect with a community that is actively working to end hunger and poverty while caring for the earth.

Service Learning combines our experiential education programs including  Global Gateway Heifer Challenge and hands-on activities, with work projects that help us maintain the ranch and continue to be good stewards for Heifer International.

Summer Action has an educational emphasis with several service opportunities.

“As we read the kids journals, we realize how much they were impacted by the experience and many are inspired to take action like building a compost bin for their parents, researching development/travel opportunities, and sharing what they know with their friends, not to mention trying to come back as volunteers!  It was a great fit for our group and we'd love to return sometime again in the future.”

Duluth, Minnesota

During your time on the Ranch, participants should be prepared for up to two miles of walking on a full day’s program.

Program Dates Available for Individuals:

Summer Action: July 27 - August 1, 2008: This program runs 7 p.m. Sunday – 11:00 a.m. Friday. The program is open to youth 12 years (or 6th grade graduates) and older with an accompanying adult chaperone. Each adult can bring up to five youth. Summer Action tuition is $340 per person to include all educational programming (Global Gateway, low and uplifting Challenge activities, service projects and additional educational activities), lodging and meals. Participants will sign-up each day for various service projects and educational programs. Participants will spend one night in the Village and four nights in a modern climate-controlled lodge. Each room in the lodge has two single beds and a private bath. Each room will be assigned two people. Individuals are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Ranch. Register Now.

To register online for these programs...

1) You will need emergency contact information and an email address for all attendees (or you can repeat the adult chaperone’s email address if the youth does not have an email address).

2) When registering you must select "yes" for “Will you be registering more than one person for this event?”    This enables an adult to register themselves and the youth they are chaperoning (up to 5 maximum) on the same registration.

3) Select "Adult Chaperone" as your first registration type to set the adult chaperone as the primary attendee. Registering for one person is not permitted as this is a youth program and youth must be accompanied by an adult.

4) The program’s per person fee will be added together and charged to the adult registrant.

5) You can view a complete program agenda prior to registering by clicking “Event Details” at the top the first page of the online registration and then clicking “Agenda and Fees.”
