Nepal Group Passes on the Gift
In 2006, a very special pass-on occurred in Nepal when Heifer U.S. teammates visited an NGO partner that grew out of Heifer Nepal’s first project in 1993. That original 25-member women’s group is responsible for the formation of 112 other women’s groups touching 2,800 families, and they have documented pass-ons of goats to the 8th generation.
The Women’s Group Coordination Committee ended their inspiring presentation with another pass-on: a surprise donation to aid Heifer recipients affected by Hurricane Katrina. This donation was presented to Nepal Country Director Dr. Shubh Mahato. To a round of applause, Dr. Mahato promptly passed on the gift to Heifer’s visiting Vice President of Education Anne Harper.
The women of the group went on to share more of what they had. They each saved rice and together accumulated a large pile of rice to give other families in the community that needed the food. They also saved money in order to offer a young girl a scholarship to go to school.
This woman's group was successful because they were eager to help others, eager to give and eager to pass on their gift.
