From the Field

Heifer does amazing work throughout the world, here are a few examples. The stories are searchable by continent or country.

At the May 11, 2013, celebration of Ivano-Frankivsk City Day, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) presented its work in Ivano-Frankivsk and other neighboring communities. This presentation also involved Heifer Ukraine's project holders and partners in the USAID AgroInvest project. The AgroInvest project will grant $175,000 to Heifer Ukraine cooperatives to purchase equipment, which will support milk processing and crop storage and packaging.
Students from Purdue University and the Agricultural University of Timisoara in Romania came together for a week-long training session in Heifer project communities, a result of a collaborative relationship Purdue has developed between animal science majors and the project communities.
Neang Chhoeun, a disabled 53-year-old farmer and self-help group (SHG) leader, brought SHG members and villagers together as they restored a dirt road in Ou Ampil Village, Cambodia. The road will allow easier and faster travel to homes and the market.
More than 150 families gathered in China's Xiliujing Village early on April 1, 2013, for a grand Passing on the Gift® (POG) ceremony where 35 new recipients received 175 animals as gifts. New recipient and project participant Li Dongsheng said, "We new participants must look at the example set by the older participants; we must pass on this compassion, and use the POG activity to develop ourselves.”
The gift of five sheep from the Virabyans to the Ohanyans in a Passing on the Gift® ceremony also passes on hope in a seemingly hopeless situation Lernantsk village, located in Armenia’s Lori Region.
