Canadian International Development Agency Extends Heifer South Africa Grant

In 2012, Heifer South Africa was awarded a grant for about $60,674 by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to develop its staff through several learning exchanges and training courses. CIDA was pleased with Heifer South Africa's successful activities and approved an additional $33,408 for 2013, to further capacity building activities.

Why CARMAC?

CARMAC is a unique Heifer project that will bring systemic change. Support for the 55 engaged cooperatives in terms of the 30 percent cost-share for acquiring agricultural equipment is, by itself, innovative. The project is of significant importance to the rural communities of Armenia, as it promotes more effective use of existing natural and technical resources and cultivates a sense of responsibility and private ownership among farmers.

Goats Mean Gainful Employment in Nepal

Raghu and Kalpana are a young married couple in Nepal. Raghu worked in Malaysia, but after he attended Heifer's 12 Cornerstones for Just and Sustainable Development training, the couple started a goat-breeding business in their own village. Area Vice President Mahendra Lohani shares their story.

Danone Representatives Visit Heifer China

Zhang Ping, director of Dumex Baby Food Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Danone Baby Nutrition, and four others visited the Heifer China office on December 3, 2012. They attended a steering committee meeting and visited another Heifer project to learn its best practices and meet project participants.

400 Families to Benefit from Dairy Project

Natural disasters have posed a significant challenge for Heifer Philippines’ project Developing Dairy Zone Towards Local Economy Development for Smallholder Farmers. Despite the risks, partners are enthusiastic and the first 100 dairy families are expected to participate in the Original Placement Ceremonies (OPC) this June, immediately followed by the OPC for the remaining 300 families.
