Families in Peru are expanding their coffee farms to include livestock and vegetables. These successful diversified production systems give farm families additional sources of income, making them more resilient to climate situations.
More than 100 farmers participated in a Lamb Judging Competition held January 12, 2013, in Tokay Village, China. Eighty families received 395 quality ewes after the project officially launched in December 2011. By the end of 2012, 326 lambs were born; these lambs were the “contestants” of this Lamb Judging Competition.
Between October 2012 and February 2013, women leaders from all corners of Ukraine participated in study tours funded by Heifer Ukraine and the Women's Information Consultative Center. The trainings aimed to solve problems such as high unemployment, domestic violence and lack of medical care.
Heifer Philippines project participants took part in three learning visits to development cooperatives. Those attending gained experience in smallholder farming, dairy production and animal husbandry.
In partnership with Syngenta Foundation and UAP Insurance, East Africa Dairy Development (EADD) launched a new animal insurance in Tanykina Dairy Plant in Kipkaren Nandi County in the North Rift of Kenya. With the newly introduced Kilimo Salama livestock insurance, 32 pioneer EADD farmers can hedge their dairy businesses from common loss due to disease and malnutrition.
