NEW ORLEANS, La. (June 30, 2012) – Heifer International today was recognized for its work to end hunger and poverty and protect the planet by the 600,000-member Kiwanis International family, with the presentation of Kiwanis’ highest honor—the 2012 World Service Medal.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 28, 2012) – Heifer International’s biogas project in Uganda has received a Best Practice Award from InterAction, a coalition of nonprofit organizations focusing on disaster relief and sustainable development. The biogas program eases the workload of rural women and improves their health by providing a safe, renewable and cheap source of cleaner-burning fuel.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 25, 2012) – Heifer International Uganda country staff are reported safe after heavy rains triggered several mudslides in the Bugisu sub-region of eastern Uganda. Work to determine impact on communities Heifer serves in these regions is under way and will be reported as soon as details are known.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 25, 2012) – At a time when fewer children are reading fewer books, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, Nobel and Gandhi Prize recipient and human rights activist from South Africa, has voiced his support for Heifer International’s Read to Feed® program in his home country.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 21, 2012) – Heifer International is saddened to learn of the passing of Philip West, a son of our founder, Dan West. Philip West died Thursday in Missoula, Mont., surrounded by family. He is the brother of longtime Heifer staff member, author and supporter Jan West Shrock. Our sympathies and condolences go out to family and friends.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 14, 2012) – Sonora Dodd was the driving force behind the establishment of Father’s Day in 1910, to honor of her father, a Civil War veteran who raised six children on his own. This Father’s Day, you can honor your father by helping to lift another father and his family out of poverty and into self-reliance, with an alternative gift from Heifer International.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 5, 2012) – On World Environment Day, Heifer International is proud to be a part of the Green Economy, from Heifer’s LEED Platinum-certified headquarters to its projects around the world that care for the Earth at the same time they improve lives.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 5, 2012) – Father’s Day gift-giving isn’t easy for the dad who seems to have everything. (Does he really want another tie?) But shopping for Dad doesn’t need to be difficult, if you remember that what he really wants is a reminder of the skills and values he imparted to his children. That’s why the gift of self-reliance for a family in need, through Heifer International, is so special.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 1, 2012) – No smile is more sweet than that of a child, and no cry is more cutting than the wail of a toddler. Children are not just the precious keepers of the future. They are a source of joy and purpose for their families every day. Heifer International marks International Children’s Day today as a chance to focus attention on the pressing need to keep youngsters well-nourished and out of poverty.
