LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 1, 2013) – The recently launched tablet edition of World Ark magazine, a publication of nonprofit Heifer International, has been named a finalist for a min 2013 Best of the Web award. The Holiday 2012 edition of the app was nominated in the digital magazine category, an honor which comes just as the spring edition of the digital World Ark is released to users.
World Ark is well-established as the quarterly print magazine for Heifer International donors and anyone interested in reducing hunger and poverty. In November 2012, Heifer became the first development nonprofit to launch a digital publication, available as a free app for iPads and Android-powered tablets. The interactive tablet app incorporates news from the field, facts about development work around the world and ways readers can get involved, along with dynamic, gorgeous design.
The spring edition of the digital World Ark features stories from East Africa, India and the U.S. It includes digital extras like interactive graphics, extra interviews, and the latest alternative gift catalog. It also includes the Shop@Heifer marketplace which offers T-shirts, mugs, inspiring books and other items to complement Heifer International alternative gifts. Tablet users may view the new edition by refreshing the app on their newsstand.
min, short for Media Industry News, is a resource for magazine and media professionals to learn about the latest trends in the field. The Best of the Web awards are the industry's top honor in the digital space, recognizing outstanding Web sites and digital initiatives among consumer and b2b magazines. Other nominees in the digital magazine category include dash magazine, EBONY.com, EE Times, Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, Popular Science and WIRED.
“It's a thrill for us to see the stories and photos of Heifer's project participants in World Ark sharing the spotlight with other well-known retail magazines on a national stage,” said Donna Stokes, World Ark editor. “The World Ark tablet app is groundbreaking in its ability to connect with supporters in intimate and dynamic ways.”
