Around the World: Summer Travel, Bible School Fundraiser, Veterinarians Visit

Every week we highlight some of the people who are funding our work creatively or helping us spread the word of our mission online. If you spot Heifer International while you’re surfing the web or know of a fun or creative fundraising effort, please share it with us here in the comments.

Elizabeth Chapman and Marcia Kochel, human rights teachers at the Galloway School, spent a week this summer in Cambodia visiting villages south of Phnom Penh with Heifer International and the Somaly Mam Foundation.

Rev. Alicia Rapking went with the mission team from Chapel Hill United Methodist Church to Heifer Farm in Rutland, Massachussetts. She shares her experience sharing in the chores, building pens, moving pigs, and learning about Heifer International and our mission.

The Veterinary Education Network will be descending on Heifer Village in Little Rock on September 21 for a full-day workshop. In addition to learning about how to improve their own businesses, the attendees will also learn about Heifer International's work and help in our mission as part of the proceeds will be going to our projects.

"Local youth will have a role in helping others help themselves, quite possibly on the other side of the world, thanks to a successful fundraiser for Heifer International." About 70 children from four churches in Wisconsin teamed up during Vacation Bible School and easily surpassed their goal of $500.

John and Judy went on a trip to Ecuador this summer. As part of their travels, they visited some Heifer International project sites. There they met artisanal fishermen, banana and cacao farmers and processing locations, and Heifer's impact helping through trainings, co-ops, loans for expansion and helping preserve the rain forest.

We were honored to be listed in Disruptive Women in Health Care's list of "incredible organizations that are working to eradicate gender inequality worldwide."

Just Food Now lists Heifer International in its 100 Food Activist Twitter Feeds, among such company as the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, No Kid Hungry and Edible Schoolyard, among others.
